August 28 – Berg Adventures Team Starts Up the Rongai Route on Kilimanjaro
This is Gordon Taylor calling. Our first night was at the Simba Camp and it was fantastic, a beautiful walk through the rain forest. We saw 2 black and white colobus monkeys. We then moved on to Second Cave Camp which was spectacular. We have been well fed and well looked after, the camping is exceptionally comfortable. From Second Cave we moved to Kikelewa Camp at 3600 meters (11,811 feet). Everybody is comfortable and healthy and doing great. We are leaving now heading up to Mawenzi Tarn Hut at 4330 meters (14,200 feet). We got up last night and the stars were amazing, the sunrise this morning was spectacular. The scenery here is ever-changing as we move up the mountain. Everybody is having a great time, it’s more than we could ever expect. We will talk to you all soon. |
