August 8 – The Summit!

The summit sign on Uhuru Peak, the top of Africa! At 7:00 AM, August 8th Dave, Peter and Daniel stood on top of Uhuru Point, the very top of the continent of Africa.

Nicholas could not get phone coverage from the top, but he called us from High Camp, at around 11:00 AM after the group had safely descended from the top. He told us that they had begun climbing at around midnight and that the way to the top had been beautiful, clear and a “little bit cold.”

The guys will have a long trip off the mountain in the next 1 ½ days. Their legs will be tired, but their hearts happy and fulfilled after this great week spent on Kili and the accomplishment of having stood on top.

The Breach Wall viewed from Barranco CampTheir safari guide has already left for Serengeti. He will be waiting at the airstrip with a Land Crusier when they land there on Tuesday. No doubt our three heroes are more intent on making that first shower at the Novotel Mt. Meru Hotel count for all it can at this point, but we can assure you that the sights and experiences that await them in the wilds of Serengeti will be worthy of this teams accomplishment on the mountain.

Stay tuned for a report when they reach the bottom.
