November 2 BAI team approaching South Summit
This is Leila Silveira November 2 calling from Base Camp. We’re all gathered for the night in the Communications Tent. We have the heater on which is really helping keep us warm. Now, the whole team left the South Col at a quarter to midnight (11:45 pm). Everyone was feeling well. David had done a major improvement, he was feeling strong. They slept for six hours without a problem with full oxygen. Actually, Nima Tashi got on the radio with us sort of complaining that they were having a hard time waking them up because they were sleeping so well, at 10 pm which was the time to wake them up to get themselves ready. At 5 am, just a few moments ago, we got a radio contact from Wally and Nima Tashi. They’re all climbing together, members and Sherpas. And they were doing fine. They were above the Balcony (8400 m or 27,600 feet) on the South East Ridge and they think they should be arriving hopefully soon on the South Summit. The wind, according to Nima, is mild. The sky is very, very clear with the stars. It’s really a very fantastic night. Down here at Base Camp it’s also very clear with no wind. Well that’s about the news for the moment. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we have any news. This is Leila standing by. |
