September 20, 2006 - Trekkers Reach Namche Bazaar

Karen, Cami and Maria are the three musketeers

This is Leila Silveira reporting from Namche. We arrived at the airport in Kathmandu at 6:15am yesterday morning and were quickly directed to the gate to board our plane.  We reached Lukla at 7:30am and rested at our lodge while we waited for our luggage to get organize. We started our trek to Phakding and everyone did really well. We arrived at our lodge by the Dudh Kosi river and after a great dinner we all went straight to bed.

Cami shows some local children images on her digital cameraCami, who was feeling under the weather, had an amazing recovery after experimenting with some local herbal tea. Today we were all in good health and ready for the trek to Namche which was quite long and vertical with the Namche hill.

We saw Khumbila, the holy mountain, and Thamserku with its snow capped peak. The weather was perfect today, clear blue sky and the members took lots of photos, especially Cami who not only took great images of the local children but also showed them the images on her digital camera.

We stopped for lunch in Mojo where after a good hot meal the entire team, including Ang Temba, took a long nap, almost 1 hour! I think if I had not woke them up they would have slept the whole afternoon. Jim was even snoring!  Cami, Maria and Karen, the 3 musketeers, spend lots of time together, supporting one another. Libby has joined their team, and I have a feeling that by the end of this trip it might actually be the 4 musketeers.

Steve, Matt and Libby on the trail to Namche

Well, we got to Namche and as always this is a great place with all the facilities and comforts of home. We talk about this being a Deluxe trek and we are not joking, we mean it. Our lodge in Namche is amazing, not only great rooms with great hot showers but the food is also fantastic. Steve was excited to experiment with the yak steak, Matt ended up not only eating his food but trying Libby’s and Karen’s. Lots of sizzling yak steak, pizzas, and spaghetti, were the favorite choices.

Tomorrow, if the weather permits, the team will hike with Ang Temba early in the morning to a viewpoint where they will have their first glimpse of Everest. We will keep you updated on our program, lots going on and quite an adventure.
