This year has been a challenging one for the people of the Khumbu Valley, but their love for their homeland and happiness to share it with people from around the world will always remain. The team experienced such a warm welcome from the people of the Khumbu. They met many of our Sherpa friends who were happy to bring them into their homes and show them what life is like in the valley. When the team arrived at Everest Base Camp they were invited for lunch at the SPCC Icefall doctor’s tents, where they spent some time with the incredible people who work so hard on expeditions every year.

Dick Morse, Chet Sutterlin, Bill Cole, Jennifer Loeb, Don Healy and Urszula Tokarska along with BAI guide Brent Bishop all met in Bali on March 3rd ready to take on the challenge of climbing the highest summit on an island on earth. They trekked through thick jungles, over raging rivers and passed many Dani and Mani villages and tribes to reach their Base Camp. You can see their trek to base camp by checking out their Expedition Recap Dispatch Part I.

Their summit climb was a long one day rock-climb on abrasive limestone. They climbed along fixed lines and made a thrilling Tyrolean traverse along the summit ridge. Their challenging day was rewarded by incredible views of the surrounding mountains from the top.
